Hailey Hobren Complex Litigation Attorney

Hailey A. Hobren is an of counsel trial attorney who joined the Tauler Smith LLP team in 2021. She has diverse litigation experience that includes commercial disputes, complex probates, and civil rights litigation.

Ms. Hobren predominantly supports the firm in Texas and Florida proceedings. Ms. Hobren also supports the law firm’s consumer protection, product liability, and false advertising litigation, and she works closely with the Tauler Smith partners.

Background

Ms. Hobren was previously a limited partner with an innovative virtual law firm that set the standard for virtual legal services years before the response to COVID-19 popularized at-home work in 2020. She has also worked for solo and small firms, both full-time and providing of counsel services. She continues to maintain her own law practice to provide services outside the Tauler Smith purview, such as estate planning and probate services.

Education

Ms. Hobren obtained a Bachelor in the Science of Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s prestigious School of Foreign Service in 2008, majoring in international politics with a concentration in international law, ethics, and institutions. Ms. Hobren also received a Certificate in Justice and Peace Studies from Georgetown’s Program on Justice and Peace, graduated with honors in international history, and was a John Carroll Fellow with Georgetown’s Carroll Fellows Initiative.

Following her undergraduate work, Ms. Hobren graduated from the University of Texas School of Law at Austin, receiving her J.D. in 2011, focusing on litigation, intellectual property, and mass media law. After receiving her juris doctorate, Ms. Hobren also pursued further education from Austin Community College part-time in fine arts, video game design/art, animation, and graphic design.

Bar Admissions

Ms. Hobren is admitted to practice law in the state of Texas and in the state of Florida. Ms. Hobren was also a Texas certified attorney/guardian ad litem from 2012 to 2020.

Associations and Recognition

Ms. Hobren has been active in the Austin Bar Association (ABA) since 2013, participating with the Austin Young Lawyers Association after graduating from the ABA’s Leadership Academy.

Ms. Hobren has litigated several notable cases in her time as an attorney, including:

  • A 2012 dispute against the City of Dallas to prevent the destruction of natural wildlife by the city’s Arboretum.
  • Civil rights litigation in 2014 against the City of Houston for police brutality and racial profiling at a hospital.
  • Litigation in 2018 to investigate human rights abuses against children at the Brownsville immigration detention facility and to ensure every minor child has access to free and adequate legal representation while separated from a legal guardian. Ms. Hobren made national news for being appointed the court’s investigator to investigate the facility. Through her efforts, the plaintiffs were able to guarantee through agreed disposition with the federal government that all children in Texas be required to receive the names and contact information of volunteer attorneys willing and able to assist them, as well as an opportunity to contact legal counsel so a Texas guardian may be appointed on their behalf in place of the federal government.

Ms. Hobren is politically active and volunteers her time to causes involving the environment, health care, human rights, and civil rights. She has a particular interest in helping the most disadvantaged members of society.
